Youth Activities and News (from Spring 2007 Eastwind)

BBQ Field Day by Vietnamese Young Leaders Assoc.

Viet’s Youth Center is currently available for students in East New Orleans at 4655 Michoud Blvd. Suite 19. The center also provides summer programs for children. Last year’s grand opening was attended by two APAS representatives: Sun Kim and Cecil Murphy.

From AASIA(Asian American Students Intercollegiate Association) chair Lily Hoang: Representatives from Louisiana (University of New Orleans, Tulane University, Loyola University New Orleans, Louisiana Monroe, and ITT Tech) attended the VASCON annual conference in March at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas.

The main goals were to gain new perspectives on current issues facing Asian Americans, to acquire new information, and to help create a support system with organizations on college campuses throughout the United States.

Attendees also hoped to broaden their perspective and raise awareness to not only the Asian community, but also New Orleans as a whole.

VASCON is the Vietnamese-American Student Conference, with an expected attendance of several hundred undergraduate and graduate students from around the nation. continued »    Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version
